Seattle - part 2

Alright - it has been a busy week! The conference is just winding down, with us presenting at the workshop today. Everything worked well, even though we realized that the public demo that we put online for the conference had an issue with displaying images and had to frantically fix things during the first talk of the session. Talk about Murphy's Law.

But let's start at the beginning of the week. The reception Sunday night was spectacular. It was sponsored by Boeing and held at the Boeing Future of Flight Aviation Center.

I thought I'd meet a few people from Edinburgh, but really didn't spot any. yikes! I'm stranded with like 500 strangers! Thankfully, everyone feels the same at these big conference events and so it's really easy to met new people (I guess that really the purpose anyways). So in the end it was a great evening.

I'm going to spare you the details of the technical sessions of the conference - this being my personal blog and all. Let it suffice to say that there were a lot of great talks, and a few not so great ones.

Monday night was the poster session followed by the Yahoo! party at the Seattle Science Fiction Museum. What a cool venue!

The official conference banquet was Tuesday night at Tillicum Village, on an island about 8 miles from Seattle. This was a pretty cool event, with a show of Native American culture, but maybe a bit too touristy.

Wednesday night we met Dan's sister and her boyfriend to see a soccer game (!) between Real Madrid (!) and DC United. It was a fantastic game with over 66 thousand visitors and some great plays. It ended in a 1:1 tie, which was quite a surprise. DC United really did earn the tie though.

Today is Thursday night and I'm officially exhausted. Good thing we grabbed a quick dinner and then went back to our rooms. I really needed some time by myself to wind down. g'nite.

man, ever since I heard of it a year or two ago I've totally wanted to go to the Sci-Fi Museum. That sounds awesome. You'll have to tell me about it more when you get back.
