Surgery Update

It's the night after the surgery and so far everything is great.

The whole process was pretty fast. We arrived at the surgery center at 9:00am and I got into pre-op shortly after. I got asked by every person, what procedure I was there for and which leg the surgery would be on. The nurse actually wrote "Yes" on the leg, which put my worries to rest that I'd somehow end up with work on the wrong knee ;)

Around 10:00, I was brought into the surgery room, which was freezing cold to reduce any chance of bacteria. I got onto the surgery table, which is quite narrow and has two side-tables for the arms. I then got hooked into a few machines - blood pressure, pulse, etc. And then the anesthesiologist said "we're going to start you on the good stuff now" and that's pretty much all I remember.

When I woke up, I felt like having taken a long nap. No nausea or any other issues. My knee was bandaged, but much smaller, than I thought it'd be. Cecile gets in to pick me up, we talk with Dr. Jeter and off we go. It's not even 1:00pm yet.

Cecile and I spent the day resting, watching movies and reading a bit. I'm hooked up to a cold therapy unit, which pumps ice-water through a bandage to reduce the swelling. I got a DVD of the whole procedure and we are just too curious not to watch it. It's actually pretty cool. The picture is from the scope and the audio is from the room. We mostly hear Dr. Jeter comment on what he's seeing while giving instructions to his assistant.

The knee is currently full with a local anesthesia, which should block any pain until around midnight. So we'll really see how things are tomorrow. So far, I've been able to stay off any other pain medication, but I will take something before going to sleep to avoid any rude surprises during the night.
